Helping Families Navigate California Probate & Trust Administration

Losing someone is hard enough. What comes after — the paperwork, the courts, the creditors, the family conversations — can feel impossibly complex. A California Licensed Professional Fiduciary steps in as a neutral, experienced, and legally authorized guide through every stage of that process.

We don’t just file documents. We carry the responsibility for the estate, so you don’t have to carry it alone.

Our Core Services

We focus exclusively on probate and trust administration — two areas that require experience, precision, and real accountability to the families we serve.

Probate & Estate Administration

When someone passes away with assets in their name alone — no trust, no joint owner — those assets must go through California’s probate process before they can be transferred to heirs. We serve as the court-appointed personal representative and guide the estate through every required step.

Trust Administration

A living trust avoids the probate court, but it still requires careful, legally compliant administration after a death. As successor trustee, we step in to carry out the terms of the trust, protect beneficiaries, and ensure every asset reaches its intended destination.

Who We Are

Brian Toeppen is a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary, a member of the Professional Fiduciary Association of California (PFAC), and a National Certified Guardian with direct experience in California probate courts across the Bay Area and North Bay — including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. NorCal Fiduciary was founded on a straightforward belief: that families navigating one of life’s hardest moments deserve someone genuinely trustworthy, experienced, and accountable in their corner.

Why a licensed professional fiduciary?

A California Licensed Professional Fiduciary is not an attorney, but we carry a legal duty that is among the highest recognized under the law.

State-licensed & regulated

Licensed by the California Professional Fiduciaries Bureau, we are subject to ongoing regulation, renewal requirements, and a binding Code of Ethics under California Code of Regulations Title 16, Division 41.

Court-supervised accountability

Every significant action we take is subject to review by the probate court. Fees, asset sales, distributions, and final accounting are all court-approved, providing an independent check on every decision made.

Your best interests, always

We are legally obligated to act exclusively in the estate’s best interest — not our own. We are prohibited from conflicts of interest, self-dealing, or any activity that could be perceived as adverse to the estate or its beneficiaries.

Detailed fiduciary records

We maintain comprehensive, court-ready records of every transaction. Our documentation standards meet and exceed what California law requires of professional fiduciaries managing estate assets.

A coordinated professional team

We engage California-licensed attorneys, CPAs, real estate professionals, and appraisers as needed, building the right team for your estate and keeping you at the center of all decisions, however far away you may be.

Clear, consistent communication

Distance is no barrier to transparency. You will receive regular written status updates, prompt responses to your questions, and a clear explanation of what is happening and why — in plain language, not legal jargon.
